    When is does open enrollment for Covered California start?

    A

    Open enrollment in California started on Oct 1st for renewals (existing clients) and Oct 15th for new accounts (new clients) and for Medicare Part D

    I got a letter and it said it ended on November 4th?

    A

    Nope. What the letter meant was that if you’re not expecting anything to change in your income or household size your account will automatically renew on November 4th IF the plan is still available.

    If I’m not expecting any changes and I want to keep my plan should I still contact Vanessa?

    A

    Yes, it’s a good idea to contact Vanessa rather than just letting your plan automatically renew. Plans change what areas they cover and Vanessa will know if your current plan is still available.

    Do I qualify for Covered California?

    A

    That depends on what your taxable income for next year will be. If it’s too low, Vanessa can still sign you up for MediCal.

    How do I know what my taxable income will be next year?

    A

    It’s based on what you estimate your MAGI will be.

    What is MAGI?

    A

    More or less it’s your Modified Adjusted Gross Income plus any social security or taxable income your household may receive – what you fill in on line 4 of form 1040EZ, line 21 of form 1040A or line 37 of 1040. Bring this in to your appointment and Vanessa will help you figure out the rest.

    Open Enrollment for Covered California ends on January 15th.

    I have a Medicare Supplement, do I need to come in during open enrollment?

    A

    In California, open enrollment Supplement is during your birth month.

    Do I have to change my Part D during open enrollment?/ Can I keep my Part D during open enrollment?

    A

    Part D providers change their fees and the medicines they cover every year. You should ABSOLUTELY check and see who is offering the best value for your money and who is covering any medicine you take.

    How do I find out which Part D provider I should use?

    A

    By now, you should have received a letter from Vanessa with full color instructions showing you how to easily navigate the medicare.gov website. Also included in the letter is a number you can call to reach Medicare and have them sign you up. But you can make an appointment with Vanessa to walk you through it too.

    When does open enrollment for Part D end?

    A

    It ends on December 7th, though due to processing time Vanessa may stop taking part D appointments on December 5th.

    Peggy is Vanessa’s assistant and does all the background work so Vanessa is free to help you!

    This time of year, Vanessa’s schedule is very full, so she may not be able to respond to your question the same day unless it’s an emergency.
